Angelina Jolie is in Samlout District for MJP Foundation

PHNOM PENH: In the past week, fans around Cambodia have been on high alert for sightings of Angelina Jolie in Cambodia as she arrived in the Kingdom recently for work related to the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which she founded in 2003 and named after her son. She has so far been spotted in Angkor Wat and has also met with the Minister of Environment, Say Samal.

Angelina Jolie, the revered Hollywood filmmaker, mother, and Cambodian citizen, is currently in Cambodia for a work-related visit. She first fell in love with Cambodia in 2000 when she came to film the Tomb Raider, and adopted her first son, Maddox.

Since arriving in the Kingdom, Angelina Jolie has met with the Minister of Environment, Say Samal, on Thursday, 24 February, to discuss the protection and conservation of natural resources in Cambodia. Minister Say Samal highlighted the continued cooperation and support of the Ministry of Environment for the conservation project initiated by the actress.

"A few days in Cambodia among the warm local people, and I feel my soul is recovering. This has always been a special country for me and our family," Jolie wrote in a post made on her official Instagram page. "Happy to be reunited with friends and colleagues at MJP Foundation in Samlot district. The entirely local team runs programs for health and education and conservation. I spent some time with forest rangers discussing land encroachment, poaching and mapping patrol routes.

The MJP Foundation was founded in 2003 to protect endangered wildlife and forests, and to provide support to the community in the Samlout Protected Area. Since 2006, MJP has expanded its work to include other projects such as: agriculture, education, gender equality, and healthcare.
